Pada tahun – tahun sebelumnya, ajang Golden Globe Awards berfungsi sebagai salah satu standar tertinggi untuk menghargai kerja keras insan televisi dan film. Namun dengan kontroversi yang menimpa Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) tahun lalu, ajang penghargaan tahun ini harus digelar secara pribadi tanpa siaran langsung, penampilan kemenangan para selebriti, lelucon kocak pembawa acara, karpet merah selebriti, bahkan kehadiran wartawan.
Upacara penghargaan dilakukan tanpa penonton, dan para pemenang diumumkan melalui situs resmi dan akun media sosial Golden Globes pada Minggu (9/1) malam waktu setempat.
